A board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Peter Stefanuto was born and raised in Sudbury, Northern Ontario. His post-secondary education began with a Bachelor of Science at the University of Waterloo, while playing varsity hockey for the University of Waterloo Warriors.
Dr. Stefanuto then obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of Western Ontario. Upon graduation, he went on to complete a one year General Practice Residency (GPR) within the teaching hospitals of the University of Western Ontario Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry and London Health Sciences Centre. Following this, Peter joined a rural family dental practice in St. Thomas, Ontario where he practiced general dentistry for 3 years.
Peter was then accepted into the 6-year Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery programme at Dalhousie University and trained under the tutelage of internationally renowned surgeons. In that time he also completed his MD (Medical Doctor) degree and MSc (Masters in Science). He has published in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his original research at the 2013 American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery meeting. His professional interests include orthognathic surgery, wisdom tooth management, dental implant surgery, facial trauma, and facial reconstructive surgery. Additionally, Dr. Stefanuto is a member of the AOCMF having completed AO-Craniomaxillofacial Surgery courses in trauma including advanced courses in orbital approaches. He is a member of the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (CAOMS), the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), and the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS).
Dr. Peter Stefanuto is board-certified, having successfully challenged the Royal College of Dentists of Canada Fellowship examinations. Away from the office and hospital Peter enjoys playing hockey, the outdoors, and is an avid cyclist, skier, and oenophile. Peter and his wife Alison (a local orthodontist), have two young daughters and a giant Bernese Mountain dog! Dr. Peter Stefanuto considers himself fortunate to call Kamloops home and looks forward to being part of this vibrant and exciting community.
